An absolute favorite of Hanko’s cruises is a visit to the Bengtskär lighthouse. The light of the highest lighthouse in the Nordic countries was lit for the first time in December 1906 and it rises a respectable 52 meters above sea level. When approaching the island you can already distinguish the lighthouse from afar. The lighthouse has survived many dramatic phases, e.g. during both world wars and it has many interesting stories to tell.

Bengskär belongs to the municipality of Kemiönsaari and it is located on the outermost islet of the Archipelago Sea, 15 nautical miles, i.e. only about 25 kilometers, southwest of Hanko. The lighthouse was opened to visitors in 1995 and has been a very popular tourist destination ever since. In addition to the lighthouse itself, during the day you can also admire the island’s rugged, beautiful nature, have a treat in the cafe and visit a small museum, a souvenir shop and a chapel.
